Pippa

I rescued Pippa (formally known as Goldie, her shelter name) on May 30th, 2013 from Jessamine County Animal Control.

I had gone to the shelter that day to see a Brittany Spaniel named Rusty, but he was out in the meet and greet area with other prospective adopters. I decided to browse the other adoptable dogs just in case Rusty the Brittany won over the other people. Anyone who has been to a shelter knows that most of the dogs go bizerk when someone enters the cage area, but Pippa was the only dog who stood silent and calm and kind of smiled at me. I walked over to her and told her I was getting her out of there and I am positive she winked as if approving my decision. I skipped all of the formalities, filled out a few forms and was a dog owner, lickety split.

Although I love her dearly (NOW),  I highly recommend the formalities. Meet with the dog, play with the dog…even test it out and take the pup home for a few nights to see how it goes. When I got her home, pure terror. Some say I give her too much credit, but she is smarter than me. She is maniacal, calculated, and maps out evil when I am away.

If she thinks my shower is taking too long, she will wait until I am looking at her through the shower curtain and pee on a shoe. She laughs while doing it.

If I take her to the dog park for 2 hours instead of 2.5, she will jump on my bed when we get home and pee on my pillow.

These are all slight exaggerations, but you get the point. She is so sweet and wonderful, until she isn’t fully satisfied with a decision I make and she shows me, every time.

Despite her similarities to a spoiled 15 year old girl, she is wonderful. She loves all dogs and humans, she sleeps when I sleep and wakes when I wake. She cuddles, she is adorable and unless someone offered me this, I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

Meet Pippa Dippa (via cell phone pics, only ones I have of the rascal at the moment)

STORY

If you live in Kentucky (or anywhere for that matter), you definitely need to get your hands on STORY The Magazine. The first issue came out in June, with the second issue due out in four short weeks. The stories are raw, hilarious and the writing is brilliant. Not your everyday Kentucky publication; no not at all. The stories expose the depth and boat loads of character we all know this crazy beautiful state houses. I have even had the pleasure of helping Julie (Editor-in-Chief) and Laurel (Story Seller) out with some fun STORY business, including some writing (look for it soon!). Check out a few of my very amateur snapshots from the launch party earlier this summer, and make sure you get a copy (or subscribe!)

Summer in Kentucky – vacation at home

This morning’s air was the perfect amount of chilly and crisp. Got me pretty excited for my favorite time of year (fall, yes!). However, despite having used the majority of my vacation days before summer struck, I managed to have a pretty spectacular summer here at home – sans white beaches or little hotel soaps. I have some pretty fun pictures to seal the memories in time, so happy end of summer, welcome sweater weather! (I know I am jumping the gun, it will probably me 104 degrees next week, but an end is in sight).
